Matcha FAQ: We answer all your questions (even the strangest ones) 🍵
Are you new to matcha or hesitant to take the plunge? Don't panic. We've gathered all the questions we get all the time—from the most common to the most unexpected. Ready to become an expert?
1. What exactly is matcha?
Matcha is very finely ground Japanese green tea. It's not brewed like a traditional tea: it's whisked into water or milk and drunk whole. The result: more flavor, more antioxidants, more energy.
2. Does matcha contain caffeine?
Yes, about 30 to 35 mg per serving (compared to 90 for a coffee). But thanks to L-theanine, you feel a smoother and more stable energy, without the “drowsy” effect.
3. What does it taste like?
It's vegetal, slightly herbaceous, sometimes a little naturally sweet. A good matcha is never bitter. And in a latte, it's downright smooth and creamy 💚
4. Is it difficult to prepare?
Not at all. You just need:
- Hot water (not boiling: 70–80°C)
- 1 g of matcha (≈ 1 teaspoon or chashaku)
- A small whisk or frother
Whisk until frothy, and it's ready!
5. Can you drink matcha every day?
Yes, and many people do it. It's a great ritual to start the day with energy and calm.
6. What is the difference between “ceremonial” and “culinary” matcha?
- Ceremony Grade : to drink straight or in a latte – fine, smooth, vibrant taste
- Culinary Grade : for cooking (pastries, ice cream, pancakes, etc.)
7. Is it good for your health?
Matcha is rich in antioxidants, catechins, and chlorophyll. It supports concentration, immunity, digestion, and a natural glow ✨
8. Can children drink it?
Matcha contains caffeine, so it's not recommended for young children. But for teens or diluted in recipes, why not?
9. How much does it cost?
Good matcha costs more than regular tea, but that's normal: the production process is artisanal and demanding. Expect to pay around €15–25 for 30g of quality matcha. And a box lasts several weeks!
10. Can I drink it cold?
Absolutely! Iced matcha latte, matcha tonic, smoothie… Matcha can also be drunk in summer, and it’s ultra refreshing 🍹
